چکیده

Binary Space Partition (BSP) tree and Constructive Solid Geometry (CSG) tree representations are both set-theoretic binary tree representations of solid objects used in solid modeling and computer graphics. Recently, an extension of the traditional BSP tree definition has been presented, in which surfaces used in the binary partition include curved surfaces in addition to planar surfaces. We examine the relationship between this extended deenition of BSP trees and half-space CSG trees, including conversion between the two representations, in light of this new BSP tree deenition for solid objects bounded by curved surfaces.

Efficient Binary Space Partitions for Hidden-Surface Removal and Solid Modeling

We consider schemes for recursively dividing a set of geometric objects by hyperplanes until all objects are separated. Such a binary space partition, or BSP, is naturally considered as a binary tree where each internal node corresponds to a division. The goal is to choose the hyperplanes properly so that the size of the BSP, i.e., the number of resulting fragments of the objects, is minimized....

Constructive Solid Geometry Using BSP Tree

Constructive solid geometry (CSG) is a pivotal component of CAD and CAE packages. CSG allows us to represent complex shapes and models as a series of Boolean operations between primitives. For example, punching a hole through a cube would be difficult to represent with an implict or explicit funciton. The CSG algorithm we have developed allows something like this to be represented as a simple B...

Computing the Boundary of a Class of Labeled-Leaf BSP Solids

We describe an algorithm that computes the boundary of the shadow volume cast by a collection of piecewise linear polyhedra in space using BSP trees. Unlike boundary representations, representing solids in general and shadow volumes in particular using BSP trees makes it possible to implement boolean operations easily and robustly. Also, in contrast with operating in Constructive Solid Geometry...

Collision detection for objects modelled by CSG

Physically based computer animation has to deal with the problem of detecting collisions of moving objects and preventing solid objects from interpenetration. This paper discusses a method for detecting collisions among complex objects modelled with the constructive solid geometry paradigm. Bounding volumes in each node of the CSG tree are used to determine as soon as possible whether a collisi...
